Osteopathy, founded in the 1890's by American Andrew Taylor Still, is a well established, distinct and safe system of diagnosis and treatment aimed at allowing the body to move as well as it possibly can. Osteopathy understands that the body is a unit, where anatomical structure enables the body's ability to function and function guides the structure of the body. Due to this inter-relationship it is deduced that the body has self-regulating mechanisms and therefore the capacity to defend and repair itself. The addition of biodynamic osteopathic principles gives rise to a very interesting and deep treatment process. Our teacher is Nature. The natural world expresses itself in a distinct and ordered manner. The inherent self healing follows this very same order. The osteopathic practitioner uses manual techniques to balance all the systems of the body, towards overall good health and wellbeing. Rather than focus on disease, we ask questions and listen to messages that your body is telling you about its health. Instead of focusing upon fragmented parts, we listen to the "whole." We are trained to listen objectively from the depths of our inner being, without imposing a sense of what is “right,”. Lastly, we observe the motion present in the heart of the inertia.
What to expect during osteopathic treatment
You will be asked to complete an intake form before we meet to give us a complete background of your health history. Before the treatment you will be asked lots of questions and there will be time for discussion, especially around body sensations, mental and emotional well-being, sleep patterns and environmental sensitivities.
What to expect after osteopathic treatment
You will feel very relaxed and balanced and experience deep sensations within your body. These sensations may be familiar to you or may be new. You will feel like parts of your body are “again alive”. You will be sent home with lots of food for thought as well as some specific physical and/or breathing exercises to do on a regular basis.
