Top 5 Holiday Stress-reducing, Happiness-inducing tips
From Holiday Zen-Master Dr. Angela Warburton, TCM
Keep it simple.
Do one thing at a time. Be fully in the moment to do the things that make the holiday– affectionately buying a gift for a loved one, lovingly cooking special food for the people you're celebrating with, thoughtfully addressing holiday cards and putting a bit of ‘you’ in it. Enjoy the moment.
Eat and rest!
Make at least one of your meals each day full of as many healthy choices as possible.
Be as consistent with sleep as possible and seize the opportunity to rest whenever you can.
Cultivate gratitude
Keep in mind all of the things you are grateful for. As simple as food on the table, friends, family, living in a peaceful country…these tiny thoughts can bring you back to a centered and more heartfelt place that makes navigating holiday times easier and more pleasurable.
Commit to less
Avoid overextending yourself and trying to fit in an unrealistic list of things to do. Commit to doing those things that bring you joy and meaning.
Communicate clearly
It can be an emotionally heightened time of year for many - whether it be loving the holidays or loathing them. Throw some late nights, fatty, rich (yet terribly good) food and drinks into the mix and it’s a recipe for short words and hurt feelings.
Practice taking a deep breath and catching yourself in the moment to help prevent heated conversations. Treat people the way you would like to be treated and enjoy a happier heartfelt holiday season!
