Breech Presentation
Research has demonstrated that moxibustion can help turn breech babies. Moxa is a plant (Artemisia Vulgaris, commonly known as mugwort) that is used as a heat source to stimulate acupuncture points. The outcomes of the studies show that 75-81% of babies turned in treatment groups compared to 47-49% in the control group.
Ideally treatment begins at 34 –35 weeks, but can still be useful when used later in the pregnancy. During the first treatment, you will be taught how to use the moxa sticks to treat a point on your foot and given a complete instruction sheet for reference. After the treatment, you are given enough sticks to complete a course of treatment at home.
Moxibustion techniques can also help turn babies that are not in the optimal position prior to birth, such as those in a posterior position.
